Nayeli Yazmin Rodriguez, ‘Sacred Objects’, 2024

DESCRIPTION: “A zine that explores the generational objects from my childhood as a vehicle to understanding my relationship to catholocism, and the ways my abuelita’s cultivated their own utopia within it for all of us to exist.”

Yngrid Araujo,‘Mecho’s Journal’, 2024

DESCRIPTION: “The first thing that came to my mind when thinking of Utopia was family. The suggestion of an idealistic world yields sentiments of deception and disappointment that are hard to look over; within our heads, we can imagine our own utopia, to our liking, but this fantasy remains in question when considering all our differences concerning identity, personality, interests, and virtues.

My aunt Mecho has always documented different periods of her life, from her youth to my birth, as well as future years to come on her facebook page. In emphasis of a journal-like collage, this "entry" shows a brief arrangement of different phases and elements that become a landscape of her mind, and who she is to the world. While "utopian" feels a bit out of reach for what she could have initially wanted, a charmful outlook on the world can lead to dream-like spheres of our spirits.

A utopia can exist only when we highlight our unique singularities; if this is her utopia through my eyes, what would be missing under her own perspective?”

Eric Garcia, ‘Cien Años’, 2024

DESCRIPTION
: Embroidery and Print on Embroidery Hoop 12 x 12 in.

“Cien Años’ is my interpolation of a utopia that bridges multigenerational ancestry and its unattainable physical intimacy preserved through oral history and cherished memories.”

Sabrina Lopez, ‘Tejadores de Guatemala’, 2024

DESCRIPTION
: “This collage was inspired by a time of transition and transformation. It interweaves two major parts of my identity: heritage and spirituality. By incorporating native Mayan textiles and the art of Guatemalan weaving into a medium that feels innately spiritual to me, I’ve realized that I am capable of being the tejedora of my own life. A process that requires much patience, I am slowly but surely making sense of quien soy.”

Reyna Cordon, ‘La Utopia Que Es Mi Vida’, 2024

DESCRIPTION: “When I think of a Utopia, I think about my life, culture, and peace of mind. It's quite simply beautiful."
